The GIGAPrize Innovation Genius Award is an annual competition that encourages high schoolers to create solutions to real-world problems. Each year teams of two to 12 students (ages 13 to 18), from around the world, address global issues.

GIGAPrize is a team-based initiative open to all high school students. Our goal is to engage high schoolers to examine real-world problems and use their experience, research, and collaboration to come up with viable solutions.

Entries are evaluated based on a rubric, including: uniqueness, originality, and potential impact.

The Challenge

Each year a challenge will be issued to address a real-world problem facing all of us. Student teams will work together to find a solution. The problems are intentionally broad to allow teams to address some issues that are important to them. Rules for the challenge and scoring rubrics are posted. There’s no cost to submit an entry, so gather your team and register at the link below!

The Solution

Teams are required to submit detailed documentation to support their solutions. This may include an academic paper, drawings, diagrams, or videos. Judging will be based on a detailed rubric, including the uniqueness of the idea, potential impact, presentation, etc.

Teams may also participate in The Innovation Showcase to collaborate with other teams and share their solutions with industry leaders, venture capitalists, academics, and college admissions counselors.
